Our team of architecturally trained designers and historians works closely with our architecture and interiors professionals to help guide rehabilitation design utilizing the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards. Through this work, the Historic Architecture team works diligently to research and document historic buildings, prepare state and national register nominations and serve as design consultants on both historic investment tax credit projects and contextual design for new infill construction.
Commonwealth Architects also offers preservation planning and analysis services to clients who seek to protect and plan for the on-going care and maintenance of their historic resources. Through this work the Historic Architecture team has provided preservation planning documents, historic structure reports, condition assessments and maintenance recommendations. This also includes full construction documents for preservation or repair work, on-site construction administration and coordination with contractors qualified to work with historically compatible materials.
Commonwealth Architects specializes in providing in-depth research, sensitive design and overall coordination of projects with the client and the appropriate review and regulatory agencies. Our team members have significant experience submitting projects for review by State Historic Preservation Officers, Architectural Review Boards, Community Action Groups and the National Park Service. This depth of experience assures efficient and personal communication with key authorities in the representation of each project. Understanding the process, and being a voice for the client and the historic resource, our team offers a level of service that often proves critical to a project’s feasibility.
