1840 West Broad Street

Built in 1919 and originally used as an automobile dealership, Commonwealth Architects restored the facade and interior spaces of the building which included reintroducing the skylights in the service area and restoring the show room. As part of the requirements to receive historic investment tax credits, a simple piece of structural glass was secured to the top of the second-floor mezzanine railing to meet code requirements. This method was featured in the National Park Service's Interpreting the Standards Bulletin #46 as a proper way to modify historic interior railings to meet building code.

What they're saying
“Though it is no longer an automobile dealership, 1840 West Broad Street's style was preserved in the rehabilitation. It took a creative architecture firm, fine craftspeople, and a very committed and forward-thinking client.” — Hadiya Strasberg, Clem Labine's Traditional Building

“With the completion of the project at 1840 West Broad Street, Commonwealth Architects... has transformed a blighted structure into a catalyst for urban revival and an asset to the recovering cityscape.” — Mary Harding Sadler, Inform magazine
