Commonwealth Architects Celebrates 12th Anniversary

April 11, 2011

Commonwealth Architects is proud to celebrate our 12th anniversary in April. Founded in 1999, the firm has grown to be one of the region's premiere full service architectural and interior architectural firms.

Headquartered in Richmond's historic Shockoe Slip district, Commonwealth Architects offers an integrated, full range of disciplines in architecture, historic architecture, interior architecture, landscape architecture, planning, and 3D visualization services. Over the years, the firm has undertaken a variety of projects for a wide variety of corporate, government, university and commercial clients.

Now, more than ever, issues of sustainability and reuse are at the forefront of architectural practice. Commonwealth Architects' extensive portfolio in the rehabilitation of existing buildings makes a significant contribution to the "recycling" of buildings. This approach not only saves money for our clients but can also help to protect the environment. A focus on adaptive reuse of existing buildings for today's needs is a hallmark of Commonwealth Architects' comprehensive services.

Our projects have received more than 40 national, regional and local awards. Recently, Movieland at Boulevard Square, was honored with two awards by the Urban Land Institute of Richmond for its contribution to excellence in design and innovative development practices.

"We appreciate all of the hard work and support of our clients, co-workers and consultants that have made the past 12 years so successful," said Principal Robert Mills. "We have just weathered the worst recession in recent memory. As the market becomes more active, we look forward to working with clients with whom we have longstanding relationships, growing in markets where we offer valuable services and continuing to contribute to the revitalization of communities across the region."
