Commonwealth Architects is a passionate advocate for restoring vibrant communities through the rehabilitation of existing structures and compatible infill development. They have completed numerous adaptive reuse projects for clients that offer historic tax credit incentives, but what about HTCs for infill construction in historic districts?
Director of Historic Preservation for Commonwealth Architects, Bryan Clark Green, PhD, has written an article, "New buildings among the old: Filling in gaps in historic urban neighborhoods requires sensitivity" that suggests pushing the envelope and extending the federal Rehabilitation Tax Credit program to include a Historic District Infill Tax Credit.
Published in the January 2010 issue of Virginia Town & City, the magazine of the Virginia Municipal League, Green's article explains the importance of sensitive, appropriate infill construction in historic downtowns.
