Chamberlin Rehabilitation Wins National Award
November 24, 2009
Commonwealth Architects was recently honored with the 2009 Design Excellence Award presented by Multi-Housing News for its work on the rehabilitation and adaptive reuse of the former Chamberlin Hotel.
Built in 1928, The Chamberlin was once a majestic hotel overlooking the Hampton Roads Harbor. Commonwealth Architects rehabilitated the existing structure, transforming the space into an independent living facility. Many character-defining features were restored including the grand lobby and indoor pool while incorporating other conveniences for modern living. The rehabilitation of this grand building has had a collective effect on its Fort Monroe location, serving as a catalyst for community rebirth.
