Mills Honored by Virginia Society AIA

Architects, will be honored with the Virginia Society AIA Award for Distinguished Achievement at this year’s Visions for Architecture on Friday, November 14 at the Landmark Theater in Richmond, Va.

Recognized for his commitment to the profession and his service as a “Citizen Architect,” Mills has actively promoted pedestrian-scaled, mixed-use urban architecture and adaptive reuse throughout his 29-year career as an architect. He has dedicated his time to serve on multiple boards and committees including the City of Richmond’s Planning Commission (of which he is currently its chairman), the City of Richmond Urban Design Committee, Richmond’s Commission of Architectural Review and the Virginia Commonwealth University Architectural Review Committee.

As Virginia Governor, Tim Kaine says, “Bob has been a friend and frequent associate in my education on the merits of the historic investment tax credits. Rehabilitation of existing structures has always been at the heart of his focus on urban revitalization. These efforts have helped make Virginia a nationwide leader in the use of historic investment tax credits and in the revitalization of our urban cores.”
