VCU School of Dentistry
The 56,000 square-foot, four-story W. Baxter Perkinson, Jr. Building expands the clinical, teaching and research facilities of Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Dentistry, Virginia's only dental school.
Fifty-two new clinical stations will allow the school to increase enrollment, ultimately providing better access to dental care across the state. Research laboratories on the fourth floor will enhance VCU's research program in the areas of head and neck cancer research as well as tissue bioengineering.
Commonwealth Architects designed the addition to be compatible with the surrounding buildings, including the new School of Nursing building directly across Leigh Street, while presenting a bold new face for the north edge of VCU's medical campus. The project is expected to achieve LEED Silver certification.
