Anthem Southeast

Commonwealth Architects directed the team that developed and implemented the master plan for Anthem’s new Southeast corporate campus at the former Trigon headquarters site.

The first phase consisted of the design and construction of a new, five-story, 280,000 square foot building with glass, aluminum and pre-cast concrete facades. It also featured a new three-level parking deck with a connecting pedestrian bridge located in the rear to minimize visual impact.

The second phase involved the complete rehabilitation of the 265,000 square foot existing headquarters building. Windows were replaced and partially covered outdoor spaces were enclosed to allow the two buildings to create a new look. A 62-foot wide connector joins the new and old buildings together.

The main lobby was moved to the new building to give emphasis to a campus environment. Landscaping, pedestrian walkways, outdoor spaces and escalators allow a convenient flow of information for employees and guests.

Special features of the project include a new state of the art data center, conference center, cafeteria, gym, Credit Union and a landscaped roof terrace above the loading dock and central plant.
